Canada’s euthanasia laws have reached a “new and more terrifying low,” according to Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
He noted during a recent edition of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” there had been a “very big change in Western civilization” as Canada is set to legalize new standards for euthanasia in March 2023, and is set to extend medical assistance in dying (MAiD) to those with mental illness after a temporary exclusion expires.
Prior to the passage of the bill, MAiD eligibility was based only on having a “grievous and irremediable medical condition.”
In 2021, data showed that 10,064 people in Canada died with medical aid, which is a massive 32 percent increase compared to 2020. The report said that 3.3 percent of all deaths in Canada in 2021 were assisted deaths. On a provincial level, British Columbia has the highest rate at 4.8 percent, while Quebec comes second at 4.7 percent.
However, advocates say that it isn’t surprising because Canadians are growing more comfortable with MAiD, although many expect the rising rates to level off soon.
“This is about to become a lot more common in Canada as a way to cut down on healthcare costs,” Carlson said. (Related: Health insurance companies now pushing EUTHANASIA to avoid paying disease treatment coverage costs to doctors and hospitals.)
He referenced a woman’s 23-year-old son, who sought approval for MAiD on account of depression and diabetes despite his mother’s disapproval. Carlson said doctors are “killing kids without telling their parents” because they are depressed.
The doctors are said to have retracted their approval for euthanasia after receiving backlash, and it is believed that the man remains alive while trying to find a doctor who will sign off on his “medically assisted” death.
A source also said that doctors reject the man’s application because he is young and healthy and “has an abundant life ahead of him.”
During his show, Carlson was joined by Charles Camosy, a professor of Medical Humanities at the Creighton University School of Medicine. The two discussed the rapidly declining situation of euthanasia laws in Canada.
Camosy mentioned that there’s a group of physicians in Quebec who wants to kill newborn infants. “This is what happens when autonomy just goes nuts,” the professor said.
Carlson also commented that Canada’s medical system is comparable to the Nazis. “They were famous for doing this exact thing,” he said, noting that the Nazis also used doctors to murder the weakest in their society.
“I thought doctors kind of agreed after the Second World War not to do things like this,” Carlson continued. “A doctor’s job is to help people, make them better, not to kill them and give up on them when they’re kids.”
Camosy said the problem with the modern healthcare system is that it is losing its dignity as it is becoming “hyper secularized,” and it is often based on cost-benefit analysis – something that is called “quality-adjusted life years.”
He also noted that for respect for life to return to Canada and for such laws not to seep into the U.S., citizens must begin to support healthcare that prioritizes actual care. “What we need to do is support in whatever way you can, healthcare that is about caring and not killing,” he said.
There are states in the U.S. that already approved medical-assisted suicide, namely Oregon, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, Vermont, Washington state, and Washington, D.C. Montana’s Supreme Court has also ruled that state laws do not prohibit medical aid in dying.
